Bureau of Labor Statistics Reports Job Growth of 139,000 in May

Monthly employment data shows standard hiring increase ahead of summer.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released its monthly employment report, recording a growth of 139,000 nonfarm payroll jobs between April and May. This result was slightly higher than expected, though there is a consistent increase in summer hiring around this time each year.

The unemployment rate remained at 4.2 percent, with federal employment decreasing by 22,000. Healthcare gained 62,000 jobs and hospitality gained 48,000.

Employment has been steadily increasing for the last 12 months, but wage growth has slowed. Economists are uncertain how the immigration and tariff policies of President Trump’s administration will impact employment.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Chavez-DeRemer to seek God’s direction as she heads the Labor Department.
  • For Commissioner Erika McEntarfer to be discerning as she oversees the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
